Cancun

Hola amigos!
This week I want to tell you a bit more of my trip to Mexico, my days in Cancun! Even though I passed by Cancun airport many times to go to Riviera Maya this was my first experience here. I had an amazing time thanks to my very good local Mexican friends! The easiest way to understand Cancun is that it is like a Mexican Miami in the Caribbean. Best hotels, beautiful beaches, nice weather and wonderful restaurants andddddd not to forget the great Mexican people that I love so much!! If any of you is planning a winter escape back to the sun-fun life this place is perfect for you! Let me show you why.

HOW TO GET HERE:

Cancun is one of the most international destinations in the world for beach holidays. The airport is super well connected and has direct flights to the main cities in the world.
Flying direct from Europe with most airlines would be around 10h flight. I recommend you take AirFrance, KLM, Iberia or Brithish Airways since they have the newest most comfortable planes.
From Mexico fly AeroMexico, 2,30 flight with onboard wifi.

WHERE TO STAY:

If there is something abundant in Cancun is hotels, your choice is extremely wide. Any beach resort will be perfect to spend some days tanning and having a good time. Most of the hotels go on an ‘all inclusive’ system where your food and drinks are included in the price so you can order anything at anytime. I stayed at my friends place so I cannot tell you exactly what hotel to go to (dont worry I will come back to Cancun soon for research purposes haha ) but I will show you what my local trusted friends recommended:
Nizuc Hotel: This amazing beachfront resort is just 15 minutes away from the airport in Cancun. Located along the white sand beach of Punta Nizuc, the resort is made up of private villas and suites. Just relax in their spa, swim on one of their five swimming pools and enjoy the water sports by the beach. When you get hungry there are 6 restaurants you can choose from!
And I have someting exciting to announce… From next year we will be able to stay at the new Ushuaia Cancun hotel! Yes, the same hotel in Ibiza famous for their crazy open air pool parties with the best djs in the world! Sounds like a plan right? Can’t wait!

WHAT TO DO:

Stay in your hotel, tan, relax enjoy the water activities, the yoga, play golf! The number of things to do is never ending… However if you want to get out of the hotel I suggest you visit:
Isla Mujeres: The most beautiful paradise island just 20 minutes away from Cancun. To get here you will need a boat or you can always take the ferri. Come here to relax and enjoy the white sand beach with turquoise superhot waters! I suggest you come to the Buho’s beach bar and swing on their hanging chairs while drinking a Sol beer or a Don Julio 70 tequila if you like 😉 Life is good.

WHERE TO EAT:

Mar-Bella: My super favourite restaurant in Cancun and the one I would visit every time upon arrival. Everything started when the owner who was a fisherman in Cancun, decided to build the restaurant with the fish he was catching ever day. Mar-bella is not the fanciest place, only known by the locals, but it has top quality seafood and views to the beach that for me is the best luxury in life. The place is kind of hidden, you enter through a shop and then take some little stairs to arrive to the restaurant, then you see all the fish exposed on ice as if you were in a market. While you are sitting on the terrace you can see the fishermen boats arriving to the beach with the seafood that you will eat later. Really I can tell you to order anything on the menu because we tried almost all and it was delicious, seafood, shrimps, clams, everything is fantastic. The best I think was a big fried fish that when it arrives to the table they serve you tortillas and you make tacos out of it, with lemon, onion, coriander… Deliciosooo!!
Harry’s: The perfect mix between a steakhouse and raw bar. Very cool modern restaurant inside, I recommend you sit on the terrace. Ahh the feeling of arriving from a cold place ( I had just landed from Mexico City and at night it gets freezing) and sitting on a terrace with no jacket is one of the biggest pleasures in life. Enjoy the views to the lagoon while you eat one of their fantastic steaks! Beware of the sauces!!! SPICYYY lol.
Porfirio’s: This is one of the best modern Mexican restaurants you will find here. There are many Porfirios in Mexico Df ( I had one just in front of my hotel Habita how much I miss my Mexican home!) and the one in Cancun is located just next to Harry’s. So the same concept applies, sit on the terrace! With more than 100 tequilas and mezcales on their menu I suggest you don’t have a lot of plans the next day 😉
Rolandi’s : This Italian restaurant is also one of the local recommendations outside the hotel zone. Casual place, nice and to have a chill night, very good pizzas, order their most famous one, the pizza patrona.

ROVITIPS:

I always thought Cancun was a very tourist place until I came and realized it is a wonderful destination and the quality of life here is probably one of the best in the world! So amigos, today we learnt that before we speak we must see for ourselves! I will be back soon to give you a full report on hotels!!!! Who wants to comeeee ? 😉
