With summer aproaching, I feel the need to start featuring my favourite beach destinations in the world. El Gouna in Egypt is my latest discovery. I came to El Gouna for the first time to my friends Micho and Pao´s destination wedding. Sending you love from here, what an amazing trip we all had! So if you are thinking to travel somewhere new, this small paradise in the Red Sea is the perfect getaway for a sun-fun holiday.
There are many direct flights to El Gouna with low cost airlines like EasyJet from London, Geneva and Paris. From Barcelona I flew in to Cairo (amazing city, will do a special post about it soon ) with Egyptair, and then it’s only one hour flight away from there.
WHERE TO STAY:
La Maison Bleue: A Dream hotel that will make you feel you are at an Egyptian palace. With only 10 rooms (of 120 metres we could say they are more like apartments) my friends celebrated their wedding here. So amazing really.
Fanadir Hotel: Most of the guests we stayed here, the hotel is on the best location of the marina, where you can walk to all the beach clubs, restaurants etc. Very practical!
WHAT TO DO:
You are here to enjoy the sun, the beach and have fun at the beach clubs. El Gouna is totally a party place.
Club 88: Coolest beach club (actually pool) with music and nice sunbeds to spend the day, relaxing and drinking Stella. The salads are amazing, super healthy food.
Catamaran Trip: This is one of the most fun activities to do in Gouna, get a group of friends together and enjoy the party boat sailing aroud the islands surrounding El Gouna.
Golf: There are many golf clubs in Gouna, if you, like me, like to play here is a beautiful place to do so.
Kytesurfing: The spacious beaches and wind make the perfect combination to learn about this sport!
WHERE TO EAT/DRINK:
Pier 88: Floating restaurant/club in the El Gouna Marina with super fun music to dance all night, my favourite party place here.
Chez Chantal: Ideal to have dinner with the best views over the marina. Order the fillet!
Bartender: The most famous bar for drinks in the El Gouna marina. There is a pool table and fun vintage decorations, excelent place to start the night.
The local beer is Stella and the bottles are 1 litre, we always laugh we are only going to have “one drink”.
If you want hard liqueurs, let’s say vodka, rum etc you have to bring your own bottles to the clubs/bars. I have never seen this anywhere else in the world but here in Egypt is the way it´s done! So make sure you buy your bottles at the duty free before boarding the plane if you want to party!
Ladies this one goes out to you, in El Gouna we ONLY wear flats day and night! So pack your bags with the nicest flat shoes you have and enjoy the walks around town! You are welcome 😉
Also in most places they DO NOT accept credit cards! There are ATM machines that will change you Dollars / Euros to Egyptian Pounds.
Thanks for reading hope to see you in Egypt soon!
