Formentera is the little sister island of Ibiza, a more relaxed version with the clearest waters in the Mediterranean. When someone asks me about the perfect summer holiday, the first thing that comes to my mind is Formentera. A piece of heaven turned into reality where the best moments are made of sunsets, mohitos with friends and swimming the cristal clear waters that surround the island.
HOW TO GET HERE:
Fly to Ibiza, you have direct flights here coming from all over the world, otherwise the easiest connection is via Barcelona and there you have flights to Ibiza almost every hour with Vueling.
Once you land in Ibiza you will need to take a boat to Formentera, you have ferris going to the island every half an hour, however, the best option to enjoy the island is by having your own boat, you can rent one with Charter&Dreams!
WHERE TO STAY:
Gecko Beach: The most beautiful and luxury boutique hotel in Formentera. This small hotel with a private paradise beach and a super cool pool and garden area is all you need to relax in the island. Lay on one of their sunbeds by the pool and sip watermelon cocktails.
The rooms are totally new and the service is super attentive always looking after you with a smile.
My favourite part of the day in the hotel is breakfast time. There is a delicious buffet with all kinds of fruit, juices and pastries. Really there is nothing better than sitting across the paradisac beach and feel the sea breeze while drinking a freshly squeezed orange juice.
My friends did a party in the hotel and I must say it was one of the classiest parties at the beach I ever attended. The catering was top and elegantly served. The Gecko Dj Joao Ribeiro mixes the best songs and will make you dance until late hours at night!
Definitely a hotel I am looking forward spending some more holidays in!
WHAT TO DO:
Formentera has a lot to offer, from water sports to chilling by the beach and party.
My favorite beach is Illetas, simply because it combines the most turquoise waters and the best beach clubs in the island. Come here to spend the day and swim, tan, rent paddle boarding and relax.
If you are up for a little party, go to the main village Es Pujols, there you will find plenty of bars to enjoy a mohito and dance!
The best way to get around the island is by scooter, you will get access to all the beaches and you can park practically anywhere. There are scooter rentals all around Formentera! Enjoy the ride!
WHERE TO EAT:
Beso Beach: My favorite beach club with the most fun party scene, come here to enjoy a delicious paella and mohitos!! Super cool staff and a great DJ will have you dancing non stop!
Es Molí de Sal: The most beautiful restaurant by the beach of Formentera with the best views of the island. Order the carpaccio of red shrimp of formentera and the lobster caldereta! To end this amazing lunch I suggest you have a special posidonia gin tonic with local salt from formentera.
Juan y Andrea: Located in the Illetas beach, famous for their fresh seafood and great rice dishes. Order the grilled lobster with a bottle of rosé domaine d’Ott wine .
Gecko Beach Hotel: Yes I want to mention the hotel’s beach restaurant because the tuna tartar I had here has been one of the best I ever tried! Worth a visit!
Can Rafalet: Away from the busy Illetas beach you find the perfect secret getaway, Can Rafalet is a little hostel in a priviledged location in Es Caló de Sant Agustí. Take a swim in these transparent waters and enjoy the fresh seafood with paradise views.
Can Dani: If you are looking for a gourmet experience, Can Dani is the ONLY restaurant with a Michelin star you will find in both Formentera and Ibiza!
Blue Bar: The IT hippy-chic place to enjoy the most magical sunset in Formentera. The best combo is to watch the sunset, eat at the restaurant and then the place turns into a nightclub with the coolest music to end a great evening!
My number 1 Rovitip for anyone who comes to Formentera for the first time is to go to the little island of Espalmador and head to the natural reserve by the beach for a mud bath. The trick is to go into the natural mud pools and rub the mud on your body, then let the mud dry and you will have a beautiful soft skin! To wash it off just go back to the water 🙂
