This week I’m taking you the most paradisiac place in Spain. An island that has nothing to envy to the most wonderful beaches in the world: Formentera. Known as the little sister island next to Ibiza, Formentera is the perfect escape to disconnect and spend some days enjoying the sun and the clearest turquoise waters.
You have been asking me a lot about where to stay on the island and I can now tell you, I found the perfect place, Paraíso de los Pinos hotel, a true oasis of tranquility and relax! Let me show you!
HOW TO GET HERE:
To arrive to Formentera you need to first fly to Ibiza, you have a million flights coming in every day from all the destinations in the world. Once you land, head to the Ferry at the port. Will take you about 10 minutes and there you have different Ferry companies with boats every half an hour. The boat ride takes about 30 minutes and you will arrive to the island! Upon arrival the hotel will pick you up on their Mercedes van and in 10 minutes you will be in paradise!
WHERE TO STAY: PARAISO DE LOS PINOS
After discovering the hotel Paraiso de los Pinos I can say without doubt it is the number one most beautiful and luxurious resort in Formentera.
Arriving to the hotel I realised that this is the perfect place to get lost in. To come with your family, your partner.. to disappear some days from our hectic lives and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Located next to the Mitjorn beach is made up of little white houses with blue doors and windows, true mediterranean vibes. There are different types of accommodations, all have just been refurnished apartment style and they have the newest most luxurious addition which are the bungalows.
I stayed at the bungalow number 53, super modern and equipped with the most comfy bath robes, and hotel slippers ( you will see for what we use them #RoviTips) flat screen tv, the coolest AC system, a kitchen with all utensils plus microwave and a Nespresso machine. The best is the private garden with a chill out zone that will make you not want to leave your bungalow, comfy sunbeds and a jacuzzi will have you watching the sun set from here, another incredible experience!
Walking around the hotel you understand why its called ‘pine tree paradise’, the pool area is the most relaxing zone where you can hear the birds sing, sip one of their signature cocktails, enjoy a plate of fresh watermelon or try a massage on their open air space. What about some exercise? There is a tennis court in the hotel, and you can also practice yoga. Something I recommend you is to take a ride on their electric bikes, super fun! Go to Sant Francesc village about 10 minutes biking!
So the place is a paradise, but what makes it the best? The service. I have felt at home at all times from the moment I set foot at the reception. 5 star luxury service. The employees at the hotel are always ready to help and greet you with a smile with a personalised service calling you by your name, its a familiar atmosphere. I can tell you Jonas and Andrea will welcome you at the reception and show you around the hotel, Mercedes, the director at the Marlaca restaurant is one of the most amazing people I have met, her positive energy is contagious. Aiza the maitre of the restaurant, an expert in the healthy life will have you trying her healthy juice creations, Paula the pastry chef makes the best chocolate cakes in the world, the super chef Youssef from Morocco makes the most amazing dishes that I will explain you later and Pablo from Argentina who is the best cocktail man in the island!
BEACHES TO VISIT & INSTAGRAM
Well well, we all know the famous illetes beach but this time I have been exploring the island with the locals and I found some of the most precious spots that should be kept a secret, but only for you amigos I will share!
Go to Es Caló d’es Mort, a wonderful beach bay with a standing out rock where you can take a pic of its breathtaking views and why not collect many likes haha. There is also a cute simple beach bar called Chiringuito Bartolo where you can have a burger and a beer with the best sea views.
Es Caló, here is not possible to tell an exact location point because you just need to head to the Es Caló area of the island and act as an explorer yourself, grab some water bottles, sunshade and suncream protection and get lost on its tiny ways across the beach. You will need to climb some rocks (easy ) and you will find the best small coves by the sea that not many people know. You can thank me later 🙂 The hotel will provide you with the beach towels and the sunshade.
WHERE TO EAT:
Lets start from the beginning. Their breakfast buffet. How important is the first meal of the day? Very, and here you will do it the right way. From a range of fresh fruits to all the kinds of cereal, choice of Nesquik or ColaCao chocolate (small details make the difference amigos), a variety of eggs, scrambled, tortilla de patatas, the biggest selection of cakes and sweets, Jamón (top one) salmon, turkey… all kinds of bread and most important all fruit juices freshly squeezed at the moment.
When you find such high quality food and ingredients in a remote island as it is Formentera, I always think about the effort it must be to maintain the quality standards and source the top materials until here. The Marlaca restaurant is proof of that, and I’m sure their Michelin star is on the way and the super hard working team deserves it! Simply delicious, perfect for lunch by the pool and also for dinner, for a more romantic evening! Listen to the singing of the frogs around the restaurant, its a true emblem in the hotel.
Favorite dishes that you cannot miss here: The lobster salad, the salmon carpaccio with sea urchin, the rabo de toro ( top top), prawn ceviche, the tuna tartar, the mohama with yoghourt, their house special truffle risotto, the tuna tataki and the monkfish filled with prawns and lobster sauce!
For dessert let Paula surprise you with a variety of her choice, they are so beautiful it hurts to even eat them! We are on holidays after all, so calories don’t count here 😉
Remember to pair with Pablo’s cocktails, try the pisco sour! And the white Rueda house wine Estadad Mater.
To explore the hidden beaches and caves in Formentera you will need to walk through some rocks and sandy pavements and its difficult to access without damaging your shoes. So what did I invent? I brought with me the hotel slippers and believe me when I tell you its the best idea I had!!! You will see it live on the video I will upload this week on my Youtube channel RoviTravel by Mon Rovi Subscribe and let’s continue to explore the world together!
