This week I want to tell you all about how to spend some fantastic days in the Spanish capital of Madrid. A city that everytime I visit has something new to offer, there are new restaurants, new clubs, new places to go, however in such a changing environment one thing has managed to remain legendary over the years: The Ritz Hotel. A classic luxury paradise where you will feel at home. Let me tell you all about my latest adventures in Madrid!
HOW TO GET HERE:
You will find direct flights from most countries in the world, usually with the local airlines Iberia or Air Europa.
If you are traveling from within Spain the best option to get there will be the AVE train. From Barcelona is only 2.30 h, one movie away and you arrive to Atocha station in the city center. Fast, easy, you avoid airport controls, check in bags… super practical!
THE HOTEL: THE RITZ
I have chosen to stay at the Ritz for so many reasons. First of all, it is the best luxury hotel in Madrid, an icon in the city and now part of the Mandarin Oriental family, so only reinforcing its excellent quality service. The location is perfect, at the heart of the ‘golden triangle’ next to the famous museums, the Prado, the Thyssen, the retiro park and… let’s not forget the shopping and party area !! 🙂
To note is the outstanding service, from the moment you arrive you feel like you have been welcome to the palace of the Spanish royal family. Everyone in the hotel is super attentive and always ready to help. I would like to give special thanks to Pilar in the tea room for being so amazingly nice with her recommendations and always preparing the best teas! 🙂
My room, or should I say my apartment? I stayed at the Deluxe Suite, number 310 and 311, yes it has two different entrances because it is huge! I think I could just move to live here the rest of my life. What a wonderful place, so elegant, with the best views of Madrid. The sun shining in every morning, the bathroom made of white marble and golden details with all the bath products from the Luxury Spanish brand Loewe, one of my favorites. I want to make note of another important thing: I had 4 bathrobes in the suite. Two for the shower and two a bit lighter, more casual I would say. Is like the room outfits for night and day haha, how cool? Another great detail is that while you are enjoying your time at the suite the hotel will gift you with fresh fruit, mangos, apples, oranges and also not so diet things, such as delicious cakes and chocolates. It is great to just chill in the room as there is also a tea/coffee machine with the best infusions.
WHAT TO DO:
You are in Madrid! The options are endless. How about starting the day with a jogging session? The hotel Ritz has a personal trainer service who will accompany you on a running tour around the most famous interest points in Madrid. If you are more of an indoors person you also have a gym with the latest equipment and a massage room!
Apart from enjoying the best teas in Madrid, that have been selected by Beatriz the tea specialist who travels all around the world to find a unique selection for the hotel, you can find the Krug champagne room, the only place in Spain where you can enjoy Krug champagne by the glass.
My best recommendation is to just go get lost around the streets in Madrid and enjoy the Spanish lifestyle, shop, have a drink at the terrace of Ramsés and just sit to poeple watch, go shopping at the Corte Inglés mall ( the hotel has a special shopping day experience for this) and walk around the Retiro park breathing the fresh air!
WHERE TO EAT:
Imagine waking up and having the best huevos con jamón in the world. This is what happens at the Ritz every morning! I have to say the scrambled eggs here are the best I have ever had in my life. I promise you it is worth to stay at the hotel just for the breakfast buffet! And on the weekends their brunch is one of the most famous in the city! Buenísimo 😉
For the rest of the day in Madrid I have many recommendations with the newest and coolest restaurants in town.
Floren Domezain: New it place for lunch in Madrid, the owner is one of the most fun people you will meet in the city, maybe that is why the restaurant is always full of celebrities. Specialised in vegetables, when you leave the place they gift you one lettuce from their own organic garden walls. Well, that is if you manage to leave. It is very Madrid traditional that when you go for lunch, your friends (and friends of friends because if one thing we are the Spanish is very social) will end up joining and having drinks, in Floren that can go as long as dinner time! Ask for a table in the reserved area facing the street.
Mamita: The new trendy night club for drinks is hidden behind closed doors at the average bar around the corner. When you trespass the secret door at the end of the bar you enter a super cool club where the best parties in the city happen. Very cool cocktails and Mexican inspired, I suggest you come for drinks here on a night out.
Lateral: Well this one is a classic and one that I always visit on my trips to Madrid. Best tapas in the city! Order the solomillo con brie , the Spanish tortilla and the burrata salad with tomato!
Getting around Madrid is very easy and when you are located at the hotel most of the things are walking distance. However, if you need to move around by car I recommend you use the app Cabify, which are the luxury private car driver services. Advantages: they give you water, the cars are wifi equipped and the fares are set the moment you order, so in case the driver gets lost or there is traffic you will only pay what you had established from the beginning, and those fares are cheaper than the taxi!
